By the editorial team

Méziane Azaïche has been using the cabaret format to explore the riches of North Africa for many years, but this time he’s broadening his horizons to highlight the vastness of the African continent.

In 2023, he invites Soro Solo, a leading radio personality, talent scout and passionate storyteller. The journalist tells the story of the African continent in a way that avoids clichés, skillfully blending memories and testimonies, memoirs of great anti-establishment figures from Thomas Sankara to Fela Kuti, and personal accounts.

« Showing their Africa »

Music, song, theatre, circus, dance, live painting: The 10 artists in Cabaret Africain have no shortage of talent when it comes to showing us their Africa.

Throughout the show, archive photos and videos carefully selected by Aziz Smati immerse us in this African epic, where circus, dance and traditional music are brought up to date by Adama Bilorou, who was chosen for the occasion to create and direct the music.

Under his aegis, the kora, percussion, bass and saxophone add elegance to this story. Also on stage is Montmartre’s most famous acrobat: Iya Traoré, master of freestyle football and three-time Guinness World Record holder!

Thanks to the precision of its performers, Le Cabaret Africain takes the audience on a joyful and colorful journey that is anything but naive.

It removes a number of Western prejudices and presents some carefully chosen scenes from contemporary African history.

Show directed by 𝘔é𝘻𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘦 𝘈𝘻𝘢ï𝘤𝘩𝘦 and 𝘎é𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘦 𝘉é𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘶.
