Finance: AfDB scales co-financing to tackle $400 billion annual funding gap

The African Development Bank Group is intensifying co-financing efforts in 2026 to address an annual funding gap exceeding $400 billion, a figure reported by the African Development Bank and the United Nations. During the African Development Fund replenishment in December 2025, 44 partners contributed, while the OPEC Fund and BADEA announced up to $2.8 billion in co-financing for 2026–2028. Under President Sidi Ould Tah, the AfDB aims to increase leverage, as its approvals cover less than 10% of Africa’s needs.
