Through the African CIO Awards, Mohamadou Diallo highlights a new generation of actors — telcos, banks, startups, diaspora — united by a shared ambition: to build a sovereign and sustainable digital future. On the occasion of this new edition of the African CIO Awards, we proudly welcome a diverse range of stakeholders who are enriching the conversation and action around the continent’s digital transformation. Telcos, banks, fintech startups, as well as leaders in agritech, mobility, air transport, and not forgetting the diaspora: all are gathered around a common ambition — to make Africa a land of sustainable, inclusive, and sovereign innovation.
In a changing world, the ability to innovate rapidly is no longer enough. It must now happen within a compliant, secure, and scalable framework, able to absorb risks without slowing down creative momentum. This is the challenge facing our CIOs, our innovators, our investors. How can we combine compliance and agility without stifling innovation? How can regulation be turned into a strategic lever rather than a burdensome constraint?
To encourage collaboration between large groups, startups, investment funds, and institutions, in order to co-create solutions that meet Africa’s challenges

The Open CIO Innovation initiative launched by CIO Mag supports this vision: to encourage collaboration between large groups, startups, investment funds, and institutions, in order to co-create solutions that meet Africa’s challenges. It embodies a new mindset, where the CIO becomes a bridge between technological innovation, business performance, and responsible governance.
Fintech startups are pushing the boundaries of financial inclusion. Telcos are redefining their roles within digital ecosystems. Banks are accelerating their transformation to stay competitive. Actors in agritech, mobility, and air transport are integrating innovation as a vector of impact. And the diaspora, rich in talent and experience, is returning to contribute to this dynamic with strength and commitment.
It is this diverse, ambitious, resilient Africa that CIO Mag celebrates in this issue and through its Awards. An Africa where compliance and agility are no longer opposites, but the two pillars of a controlled and lasting innovation.
