On December 12, 2025, the EBRD provided a $33 million sovereign loan to SBEE to upgrade rural electricity infrastructure. The project will connect 120,000 households (600,000 people) in Mono, Couffo, and Borgou, improving access to reliable power and sector resilience. This first operation paves the way for further EBRD investments across Sub-Saharan Africa.
