Lantant Kaf 2025 : a month to celebrate Réunion’s African roots
From April 28 to May 28, 2025, La Réunion honors its African heritage through a month of culture, remembrance, and artistic creation.

For one month, the island of La Réunion will vibrate to the rhythm of its African roots with the cultural event « Lantant Kaf – Afrikanité Réyonèz Kama », organized by RASS, Battle de l’Ouest, Label Frèr2Son, and Rasine KAF. The program features kabars (traditional gatherings), exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and film screenings, inviting people to reconnect with the legacy of African kingdoms, resistance movements, and diasporas.
The 2025 edition aims to highlight Réunion’s African identity in all its richness and diversity. Maloya—recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage—will be at the heart of the celebration, described as a « song of the soul and resistance ».
A key highlight of the month will be a special fashion showcase. Renowned Malagasy designer Coco Masombika will be the guest of honor, alongside ten local designers from Réunion. Each will present three unique creations, for a total of 30 original outfits.
Three major fashion shows are scheduled:
- May 7 at the Conservatoire in Saint-Benoît
- May 10 at the Barachois Square in Saint-Denis
- May 25 at the Saint-Paul Waterfront
To complete the celebration, a series of concerts featuring maloya, rap, and reggae will showcase the African influence on Réunion’s vibrant musical culture.
