AU Presidency : Raila Odinga on strategic tour of North Africa

Raila Odinga, candidate for the chairmanship of the AU Commission, has embarked on a strategic tour of North Africa.

In Algiers, on 22 January, he was received by Prime Minister Nadir Larbaoui, who underlined the historical ties between Kenya and Algeria. For his part, Odinga called for strong leadership to promote pan-Africanism and economic independence.

His tour continued on 23 January in Tunisia, where he met a number of influential local figures, including Mohamed Ben Ayed, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad.

His programme focuses on intra-African trade, political stability, the fight against climate change and economic inclusion.

Elections are scheduled for February 2025.
