The world’s third largest producer of copper, the DRC also supplies 70% of the world’s cobalt supply. Thus, it will launch the construction of a $350 million factory to transform copper and cobalt from artisanal mining. The objective is to produce copper cathodes and cobalt hydroxide, precursor materials for electric vehicle batteries.
