The African CIO Awards 2025 : Open innovation driving Africa’s digital transformation

On April 14-15, 2025, Marrakech will host the second edition of the African CIO Awards alongside GITEX Africa. This prestigious event will celebrate excellence and innovation in the field of information and communication technologies (ICT) on the continent. Following a successful inaugural edition in 2024, this new gathering has become a must-attend event for African digital leaders.

The 2025 edition will focus on Open Innovation, an approach based on collaboration between businesses, governments, and startups to accelerate Africa’s digital transformation. This concept, seen as a strategic lever for the continent’s technological development, will be at the heart of discussions and awards. According to the organizers, promoting Open Innovation means « stimulating unprecedented synergies to tackle Africa’s digital challenges and build a more competitive ecosystem. »

In this spirit, the African CIO Awards will honor the boldest initiatives in open innovation. The goal is to highlight the key role of Chief Information Officers (CIOs) in adopting these new dynamics and promoting the sharing of best practices. By spotlighting the most promising digital solutions, this event aims to inspire new collaborations and accelerate the growth of digital technologies in Africa.

Together, let’s continue writing the history of African digital innovation

The previous edition, held alongside GITEX Africa 2024, already showcased visionary projects led by African and diaspora CIOs. This year, a jury of renowned experts, including Lamiae Benmakhlouf, CEO of the Moroccan Society of Tourism Engineering (MITC), will select the best initiatives in several categories. Projects will be evaluated based on rigorous criteria, including their impact, originality, scalability, and the quality of partnerships formed.

Beyond the awards ceremony, this event provides a unique space for exchange and networking, where African digital leaders can share their experiences and identify new opportunities. As Mohamadou Diallo, founder of the African CIO Awards, emphasizes, « Together, let’s continue writing the history of African digital innovation. » This strong ambition promises to make this second edition a key catalyst for Africa’s digital future.
