Morocco : meeting between Macron and Mohammed VI for diplomatic reconciliation

After three years of tensions, Emmanuel Macron will travel to Morocco from October 28 to 30 to meet with Mohammed VI, according to the royal cabinet. The King of Morocco invited the French President at the end of September 2024, creating an opportunity for reconciliation between the two nations. This meeting « illustrates the depth of bilateral relations, based on a solid partnership, » with a « common desire to strengthen the multidimensional ties » between the two countries, the royal cabinet stated. The last meeting between the two leaders took place in 2018.

This meeting aims to enhance bilateral relations between the two countries, marked by a strong partnership. The rapprochement began in July when France supported Morocco’s proposed autonomy plan for the Sahara, emphasizing Moroccan sovereignty over this disputed territory.
