Uganda : French Development Agency and Uganda Development Bank sign €40 million ($43.2 million) credit line to finance priority sectors

On 23 February 2026 in Kampala, the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Uganda Development Bank (UDB) signed an agreement establishing a €40 million credit line and €800,000 in technical assistance. The funding is designed to strengthen UDB’s mandate to provide long‑term, patient capital to priority sectors of the Ugandan economy, expand access to development finance, and support inclusive, sustainable growth focused on women, youth, SMEs, agribusiness and infrastructure.

The signing was conducted by Marc Trouyet (AFD Country Director) and Dr Patricia Ojangole (UDB Managing Director) in the presence of French Ambassador Virginie Leroy, aligning with Uganda’s National Development Plan IV priorities. This financing will enhance UDB’s capacity in transaction structuring, advisory services and mobilising partner resources for transformative investments. Source: AFD official press release.
