ANA : 10 years of showcasing and amplifying the voices of those shaping today’s and tomorrow’s Africa
In 2025, ANA celebrates its 10th anniversary—ten years of commitment to an authentic, dynamic, and inspiring Africa. As we mark this milestone in Kigali, it’s an opportunity to reflect on the responsibilities of African media, the challenges ahead, and the opportunities to seize, particularly in adapting to and leveraging new technologies.
By Dounia Ben Mohamed, CEO of ANA
Ten years ago, an incredible journey began. What initially appeared to be an ambitious idea was, in fact, a carefully considered project addressing a pressing need: to showcase and amplify the voices of those shaping today’s and tomorrow’s Africa. Informing, explaining, deciphering, and promoting the news of a continent destined to play a central role in the world to come—a role it has always held.
Africa is the cradle of humanity, a land of creativity, and a reservoir of natural, human, and philosophical resources essential to the future of humankind. ANA’s mission was clear: to reveal this reality to the world, countering the negative stereotypes often associated with the “dark continent.” More importantly, it sought to demonstrate to Africans themselves that their continent is far more than famine, coups, or corruption.
Certainly, the challenges are real and numerous. But Africa is so much more: vast arable lands, the planet’s green lung with still-preserved primary forests, successful democratic elections—Senegal and Ghana being recent examples—and a remarkable laboratory of technological innovation, where discoveries address tangible needs. Above all, it is a continent rich in youth, diversity, and values, provided we pay attention.
An “African” perspective
Everything is a matter of perspective. What story do we prefer to tell, and what message do we want to convey? One of a doomed continent or one of a land of hope and inspiration for a more inclusive world? ANA has chosen to offer an African perspective on impactful and inspiring local initiatives—people embodying change, entrepreneurs shaping the future.
A daily fight, a duty as a panafrican media
As a Pan-African media outlet, ANA provides content to media sharing its values. A daily fight. A duty. As a Pan-African media outlet.
Hence, the focus on the economy, as it measures progress, highlights social impacts, and showcases the actors of transformation. Hence, the attention on the private sector, with 80 to 90% of African economies driven by SMEs and micro-enterprises that continue to demonstrate resilience, innovation, and social responsibility. Hence, the emphasis on digital technologies, true catalysts of change.
Hence, our determination to promote women on a continent that champions female entrepreneurship, where women are at the forefront of socio-economic development. Hence, our passion for agriculture, a key sector for a continent that is 80% rural and capable of feeding the planet. And hence, last but not least, our dedication to cultural and creative industries, which are outstanding job providers, tools for promoting an alternative narrative, showcases of deeply rooted African traditions, and sources of inspiration for the world.
A different voice, a different path
Changing perceptions of Africa, as our slogan states, means opening up perspectives, inspiring vocations, and creating opportunities. For the past ten years, ANA has been dedicated to this mission and will continue not just for the next decade but for the century ahead—the century of an Africa fully embracing its rightful place in a world searching for values. Africa has another voice, and another path, to promote. ANA is here to make it heard.
