Rail transport: Zimbabwe–Zambia sign $2 billion railway project

Zimbabwe and Zambia signed a memorandum of understanding in early April 2026 for a $2 billion railway project. According to both governments, the initiative aims to improve the transport of strategic minerals such as copper and strengthen regional corridors supported by SADC. The project is expected to lower logistics costs and boost regional trade, subject to financing arrangements.
