Burkina Faso : Malaria cases and deaths drop sharply in 2025

Burkina Faso recorded a historic decline in malaria cases (-32 %) and deaths (-48 %) between 2024 and 2025, official health data announced by Health Minister Dr Robert Lucien Jean‑Claude Kargougou at the 19 February 2026 Cabinet meeting show. Total cases fell from 10,805,000 in 2024 to 7,329,000 in 2025 and deaths from 3,523 to 1,900, with significant reductions among children under five. Progress reflects the distribution of over 15 million long‑lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), improved environmental sanitation, strengthened governance, expanded seasonal malaria chemoprevention, and malaria vaccination efforts. Support from partners like the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Global Fund’s US$ 250 million grant for 2024‑2026 bolsters these interventions and aims to sustain gains against malaria.
