West Africa : Charles Michel visits to strengthen Euro-African relations

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, visited Dakar on April 22, 2024, to meet with Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Diakhar Faye. During his visit, Michel emphasized the importance of a strong relationship between the EU and Senegal to address global challenges, a vision applauded by local and international media.

The newly inaugurated Senegalese President, invested on April 2, advocated for a « revised » partnership with the EU. After Dakar, Charles Michel met with Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara in Abidjan on April 25, highlighting Europe’s commitment to the region, with €570 million mobilized for countries in the Accra Initiative over the past four years.
