The Senegalese Constitutional Council has revealed a provisional list of 21 candidates for the presidential election on February 25. Among them are Prime Minister Amadou Ba and political figures such as Idrissa Seck, Mahammed Boun Abdallah Dionne, Khalifa Sall, and Karim Wade. Ousmane Sonko, an imprisoned opposition figure, is not included, but Bassirou Diomaye Faye, considered Sonko’s backup plan, is present. Two women are included, Rose Wardini and Anta Babacar Ngom. The list is not final, with the possibility of claims until Tuesday. Senegal is organizing a presidential election without the incumbent president Macky Sall, who gave up a third term in July 2023, adding uncertainty a month and a half before the election.
