Rwanda : Parliament approves draft law on digital identity cards
Rwandan MPs have approved a draft bill governing civil status in the national single digital identity system. The information was revealed on Twitter by the Rwandan Parliament.
Presented by the Minister of ICT and Innovation, Paula Ingabire, this bill will facilitate the issuance of digital identity cards for Rwandans, stateless people and newborns. This digital identification project will be implemented for three years by the National Identification Agency (NIDA) and financed with 40 million dollars by the World Bank (WB).
The minister says the adoption of this project will develop a strong digital economy and an ecosystem of digital services that will improve productivity, income and social welfare.
