Uganda : to host NAM global summit

Uganda is set to host the NAM (Non-Aligned Movement) global summit, scheduled to take place from January 15 to 20, followed by the G-77 summit from January 20 to 23 at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.The upcoming Third South Summit, themed ‘Leaving No One Behind,’ is slated to occur in January 2024 in Kampala, Uganda. The summit aims to inject a fresh dynamic into the collaboration among the 134 member states of the Group of 77 (G-77) in an increasingly competitive world.

Its objectives include enhancing South-South cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, sustainable development, climate change, poverty eradication, and the digital economy. Previously, the Second South Summit was convened in Doha, Qatar, in 2005, while the inaugural First South Summit took place in Havana, Cuba, in 2000. In alignment with the G-77’s principle of geographic rotation, this summit is strategically positioned to be held in Africa.
