Uganda : Afreximbank grants $36 million to build Akii Bua Olympic Stadium

The African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has provided a $36 million facility to Egypt’s SAMCO for constructing the Akii Bua Olympic Stadium in Lira, Uganda. Signed in Cairo on October 29 2024 by Kanayo Awani and Sameh Soliman, the deal falls under Afreximbank’s EPC Programme, designed to empower African contractors in large-scale infrastructure projects. The new stadium will host matches of the 2027 AFCON, co-hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
