Tunisia : the European Union proposes “a comprehensive partnership package” and long-term financial aid of €900 million
On 11 June, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen proposed a five-point programme to Tunisian President Kais Saied.
« Building on our shared history, geographic proximity, and strong relationship, we have agreed to work together on a comprehensive partnership package, strengthening the ties that bind us in a mutually beneficial manner, » says the European Union in a statement.
Betting on « enormous potential to generate tangible benefits for the EU and Tunisia », the comprehensive partnership is to cover the following areas: strengthening economic and trade links, a sustainable and competitive energy partnership, migration and people-to-people contacts.
« Our economic cooperation will boost growth and prosperity through stronger trade and investment links, promoting opportunities for businesses including small and medium sized enterprises », the Institution adds.
The process would involve a plan including possible long-term financial aid of 900 million euros and additional aid of 150 million to be injected « immediately » into the budget.
