Southern Africa : AfDB grants $33 million to improve electricity network

On 5 December 2023 in Abidjan, the Board of Directors of the African Development Bank Group approved a grant of USD 33.25 million to Mozambique to implement the Songo-Matambo Transmission Line Project.

The grant comes from the Transition Support Facility, a Bank financial instrument for countries in transition. The aim of the project is to increase the reliability and security of Mozambique’s electricity supply and to promote the regional integration of the electricity network and electricity trade.

The project will also facilitate the implementation of priority regional interconnections such as Mozambique-Malawi and Mozambique-Zambia.
