Niger : announcement of the nationalization of its drinking water operations

On January 5, 2024, the authorities in power in Niger made official their decision to nationalize the operation of its drinking water. The immediate consequence of this move is the termination of the contract between Niger and the French company Veolia through its local subsidiary, Société d’Exploitation des Eaux du Niger (SEEN).
