Liberia: George Weah, already one year as president

Former footballer Georges Weah was elected just a year ago on January 22th  , 2018, at the head of Liberia. The project to turn the country around is still immense. Especially since his election has raised huge hopes in this country in West Africa, where 80% of the population lives on less than $ 1 a day. But the campaign promises are slow to be implemented in the face of record inflation still unresolved and an economy weakened by 15 years of civil war, not to mention the Ebola epidemic that killed thousands of Liberians. In the meantime, the government insists on working to lift one million Liberians out of poverty in five years under the « pro-poor Agenda », a development plan presented at the end of October. According to Finance Minister Samuel D Tweah, the goal is to « fill the gap in road and electricity infrastructure that was hampering the private sector. We will build 1,000 kilometers of roads and invest in agriculture, which employs 75% of the workforce. «
