On 13 February 2026, the Board of the African Development Bank Group (AfDB) approved a €10 million transaction guarantee facility for Ecobank Congo, a subsidiary of Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI). The AfDB guarantee can cover up to 100 % of non‑payment risk on letters of credit and similar instruments to support international trade finance amid limited access to credit.
According to AfDB, the facility will benefit local SMEs, including women‑ and youth‑led businesses, and priority sectors such as trade, ICT, health and food products, strengthening financial inclusion and competitiveness. A detailed agreement will set out implementation modalities, eligibility criteria and environmental, social and governance (ESG) requirements.
