Banking : Standard Bank Group reports record first-half profit of 35%
Standard Bank Group posted a record first-half pre-tax profit of 35%, according to a statement from the institution.
« In the first half of 2023, Standard Bank Group recorded an overall profit of R21.2 billion (approximately $1.1 billion), up 35% on the first half of 2022, and achieved a return on equity of 18.9%, compared with 15.7% in the corresponding period […]. The top six contributors to overall revenues in the Africa region are Ghana, Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, Uganda and Zimbabwe, » Standard Bank Group CEO Sim Tshabalala said in a statement.
Sales of the Africa Regions franchise « performed particularly well, contributing 44% to the Group’s overall result », said the bank, which ranks 2nd in Africa in terms of assets in 2022 according to S&P Global.
