Tunisia: investment deal agreed with Japan

Tunisia and Japan reached an agreement in principle on April 10, 2026 for a bilateral investment treaty, according to Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs via its embassy in Tunis. Talks began in June 2025 and aim to secure investment flows. Japan has already committed over $2.3 billion through JICA to Tunisia’s infrastructure. In 2024, Tunisian exports to Japan reached $125 million, while imports stood at $77 million. A 130 MW solar project in Gabès supported by Marubeni highlights growing cooperation.
