Africa’s Business Heroes (ABH) has established itself as a leading platform for entrepreneurs capable of delivering large-scale solutions and generating lasting impact. Since its launch in 2019, the initiative has combined funding, mentorship, training, and visibility to support high-potential projects, while building a strong network connecting founders, investors, and key ecosystem stakeholders.

A Platform Beyond Competition

ABH is not limited to a competition; it is a true driver of entrepreneurial transformation. Each year, USD 1.5 million in grant funding is awarded to ten entrepreneurs, but the support goes far beyond financial assistance. Finalists benefit from training programs, tailored mentorship, and access to a structured network, enabling them to build sustainable businesses.

Zahra Boateng-Baitie, Managing Director for Africa at ABH, stated: “Africa’s future is being shaped by entrepreneurs who are addressing the continent’s most pressing challenges and unlocking its economic potential. Beyond the USD 1.5 million in grant funding, ABH is a transformational platform that equips founders with the visibility, mentorship, and strategic support they need to scale sustainable businesses.”

This statement highlights the program’s ambition: to elevate talent, drive innovation, and support inclusive growth.

Expanding Impact

For the 2026 edition, ABH is strengthening its on-the-ground presence through visits to ten markets, including countries that have been underrepresented among finalists, such as Namibia, Tunisia, and Zambia. These initiatives will include workshops, community events, and networking opportunities to connect entrepreneurs, investors, and partners.

The program is also expanding its structure by introducing a Top 100 finalists, up from 50 previously. This reflects the program’s rapid growth: applications have increased from around 10,000 in 2019 to more than 30,000 annually today, according to official ABH data.

Inspiring Journeys

The 7th edition, concluded in December 2025, recognized Diana Orembe, co-founder and CEO of NovFeed (Tanzania). Her company transforms organic waste into sustainable protein for animal feed, contributing to food security and environmental sustainability.

She said: “Winning Africa’s Business Heroes was transformative for NovFeed. The funding will accelerate our growth, but just as important was the business training, visibility, and network we gained through the programme. ABH challenges you to refine your vision, strengthen your strategy, and think bigger about your impact.”

This testimony illustrates the program’s real impact: strategic support that goes beyond financial backing.

Key Sectors for the Future

ABH is open to all sectors considered critical for economic and social development, including food systems, climate and energy, fintech and financial inclusion, health, logistics, manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies. Applicants must demonstrate at least three years of traction, show positive societal impact, and lead a locally registered business.

This diversity reflects the platform’s ambition to support a comprehensive entrepreneurial ecosystem capable of addressing current and future challenges.

Opening to Global Opportunities

The ten finalists also benefit from an immersive experience in Hangzhou, China, within the Alibaba ecosystem. This program enables them to strengthen their capabilities in innovation and digital transformation, while gaining access to global best practices to accelerate their growth. The 2026 cohort is expected in September.

A Catalyst for Economic Transformation

By opening applications for its 8th edition, ABH reaffirms its role as a catalyst for entrepreneurs, promoting job creation, innovation, and inclusive growth. The initiative contributes to structuring ecosystems, providing global visibility, and inspiring a new generation of business leaders.

Applications are open until April 28, 2026, in French or English, via the official website.
