Burundi : Évariste Ndayishimiye assumes AU rotating chairmanship
Burundi officially assumed, on 14 February 2026, the rotating chairmanship of the African Union, succeeding Angola. The handover ceremony took place at the opening of the 39th AU Summit in Addis Ababa between Évariste Ndayishimiye and João Lourenço. Held 14–15 February 2026, the summit focused on “Ensuring sustainable water availability and safe sanitation systems to achieve Agenda 2063 goals,” highlighting the urgency of coordinated African leadership on these critical issues.
