Namibia : Lofdal rare earth project draws Japan to secure critical minerals

Japan is stepping up efforts to secure rare earths via Namibia’s Lofdal Heavy Rare Earths Project, a joint venture with the Japan Organization for Metals and Energy Security (JOGMEC). Rich in dysprosium and terbium used in EV magnets and advanced technology, the project filed an independent pre‑feasibility study in January 2026, underlining potential for long‑term supply diversification beyond China.
