The African Development Bank (AfDB) approved on 4 February 2026 a $3.9 million, two-year technical assistance project to support 13 African countries in implementing their National Energy Compacts under Mission 300, the AfDB–World Bank initiative to connect 300 million Africans to electricity by 2030.

AESTAP Mission 300 Phase II will assist countries — including Chad, Gabon, Tanzania, Mauritania, DRC, Kenya, Nigeria, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Malawi, Lesotho, Namibia, and Uganda — with regulations, planning, utility efficiency, and monitoring to deliver electricity to homes, schools, hospitals, and businesses. It builds on Phase I (Dec 2025, $1M), which focused on setting up national delivery and monitoring units.
