Zimbabwe : The government imposed an immediate suspension on exports of all raw minerals

The Zimbabwean government imposed an immediate suspension on exports of all raw minerals and lithium concentrates, including shipments already in transit, in a policy presented as being in the “national interest.” The move aims to boost domestic accountability and processing of strategic minerals, particularly lithium used in electric vehicle batteries.
Official data shows Zimbabwe exported 1.128 million tonnes of spodumene concentrate in 2025, mainly to China, highlighting its role in the global energy transition supply chain.
Only mining firms with approved beneficiation facilities will be able to export in the future, reinforcing the country’s value‑addition strategy.
