Zimbabwe : $455m deal with Jindal Steel to upgrade Hwange coal power plant

On September 23, Zimbabwe signed a $455m concession with Jindal Africa to rehabilitate six ageing units of the Hwange coal-fired power station (920 MW) over four years. Under the 15-year deal, the Indian group will recover costs through electricity sales. Zimbabwe, currently meeting only half of its 2,000 MW demand, expects this upgrade to ease chronic blackouts and restore reliability to its largest power facility.
