West Africa: World Bank unlocks $311 million for renewable energy

The World Bank approved in late December $311 million in financing for the Regional Emergency Solar Power Intervention Project (RESPITE) in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Chad and Togo. 

The project will finance the installation and operation of approximately 106 MW of solar capacity power with battery storage systems, the expansion of 41 MW of hydropower capacity, and the distribution and transmission of electricity across the four countries.
