Can you introduce yourself?

I’m Vivens Uwizeyimana, born and raised in rural western Rwanda. I studied business management at Kepler University in Rwanda and gained experience working in a government institution focused on training and project design.

What inspired you to start Umurava?

After noticing a disparity between my job opportunities and those of my peers, many of whom lacked relevant skills, I conducted research on the job market. I realized that many graduates were underprepared for current employment demands. So, I founded Umurava in 2021 to bridge this gap.

How does Umurava address job readiness in Rwanda?

In three years, we’ve matched over 900 talents with job opportunities, collaborating with over 200 companies. We focus on assessing the skills of job seekers and aligning them with market demands. Our platform has attracted over 25,000 talents, offering resources and events to upskill individuals.

What role do you see for technology, particularly AI, in job creation?

AI presents both opportunities and challenges. While some jobs may disappear due to automation, those who are skilled in leveraging AI will thrive. At Umurava, we emphasize digital skills, including AI and data analytics, to prepare young people for the future workforce.

Is AI an opportunity or a challenge for Africa?

AI is an opportunity for Africa. The continent has the chance to embrace digital tools and grow within the digital economy. By adopting AI, businesses can enhance productivity and create new roles, provided individuals are trained to use these technologies effectively.

Umurava aims to transform Rwanda’s job market by collaborating with educational institutions and providing relevant skills training. As the world changes, we must prepare today’s youth to seize opportunities in the evolving job landscape.
