Uganda : EU commits $33m to rehabilitate Nalubaale-Kiira hydropower plant

The European Union has allocated €30 million (about $33m) to upgrade the 380 MW Nalubaale-Kiira hydropower complex in Jinja, according to the European Commission. Works are expected to start in 2026 to modernize facilities commissioned in 1954. The Electricity Regulatory Authority reports the plant supplies around 20% of national power, amid electricity demand growing by roughly 10% annually.
