Uganda : Condotte 1880 to build strategic railway line

On 15 November 2025, Condotte 1880, led by Professor Valter Mainetti, is set to finalize a $650 million turnkey contract with the Ugandan government to build a 62 km railway linking Tororo to Majanji. The Italian-led consortium includes Salcef, Progress Rail/Caterpillar Italia, and Almaviva. The project features six stations, a freight port on Lake Victoria, and a railway training academy for local staff. Financing will be coordinated by CityBank, guaranteed by Uganda, with 15% public contribution.
