Uganda : $800M deal with IsDB to boost trade via railway and key sectors

On May 22, 2025, Uganda signed an $800 million funding deal with the Islamic Development Bank during its annual meeting in Algiers. The funds will finance a new railway linking Kenya’s Standard Gauge Railway to Mombasa, aiming to boost regional trade. Other sectors supported include health, transport, and energy. The agreement was signed by Ramathan Ggoobi and IsDB Vice President Rami Ahmed.
