Uganda : $50M Amari project, Africa’s first private power transmission network set for construction

Gridworks and the Government of Uganda signed two key agreements on February 3 to launch the construction phase of the $50 million Amari power transmission project. Concluded with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development and Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited, the deals position Amari as the first independent transmission project in Africa to reach this stage. The project will upgrade four high-voltage substations (Tororo, Nkenda, Mbarara North and South) to strengthen industrial power supply, support renewable energy integration, reduce grid losses and improve power quality. It is also expected to create jobs and serve as a pilot model to attract private investment into electricity transmission infrastructure.
