Uganda : $31 Million Green Climate Fund Grant Marks Africa’s First Results-Based Climate Project

Uganda has secured a landmark $31 million grant from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), becoming the first African and Least Developed Country to receive results-based climate financing. Presented by the FAO at the GCF’s 43rd Board Meeting in Songdo, South Korea, the “Uganda REDD+ Results-Based Payment for Emission Reductions” project recognizes Uganda’s success in cutting more than 8 million tons of CO₂ between 2016 and 2017.

The funds will support community forestry initiatives, sustainable land use, and equitable benefit-sharing systems, empowering local women and Indigenous communities.
