Uganda : $31 million Green Climate Fund grant for forest protection

Uganda has received a $31 million grant from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) for measurable progress in cutting deforestation and greenhouse gas emissions. Announced at the GCF’s 43rd Board meeting in South Korea, it marks the first results-based payment ever made to an African nation. Through the REDD+ programme, Uganda reduced more than 8 million tons of CO₂ emissions between 2016 and 2017.
