Tunisia : Voltalia secures 132 MW solar project, bringing 400 MW pipeline

French energy group Voltalia has been selected by the Tunisian government to develop the 132 megawatt Wadi solar project in the Gabès region, following earlier awards for the Sagdoud (May 2024) and Menzel Habib (December 2024) solar plants.

The Wadi plant brings Voltalia’s total solar capacity under development in Tunisia to about 400 MW, producing enough electricity for roughly 200,000 households.

Construction is set to begin in 2027 with commercial operation planned for 2028. The project aligns with Tunisia’s strategy to increase the share of renewable energy to 30% by 2030 (up from ~6% at the end of April 2025) and is expected to reduce ~120,000 t of CO₂ emissions per year.
