Tunisia : $47 million to strengthen power interconnection with Italy

A financing and guarantee agreement worth around $47 million was signed in Tunis between Tunisia and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development to support Phase 2 of the ELMED project. The project aims to upgrade the national grid operated by Tunisian Company of Electricity and Gas through new 400 kV overhead transmission lines, including the Grombalia–Kondar link (85 km) crossing several regions. The interconnection will boost renewable energy integration, improve grid reliability and enhance energy security, while enabling future exports of green electricity to Europe.
