Trade : Kenya and Ethiopia strengthen cross-border trade partnership

On April 15, 2025, Kenya and Ethiopia signed new agreements to boost their trade relations. The deals were signed by Kenya’s Trade Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui and Ethiopia’s Trade and Regional Integration Minister Kassahun Gofe in Mombasa. Key provisions include the establishment of cross-border trade zones allowing small-scale traders to exchange goods worth up to $1,000 (approximately 129,000 KSh) up to four times per month without restrictions. Both nations also agreed on a memorandum of understanding to speed up the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
