Togo 5 African heads of state in Lomé for a summit against the trafficking of fake medicines

Five African heads of state participated, on January 18, in Lomé, in a summit devoted to the fight against the trade of fake medicines in the continent. They are Faure Gnassingbé (Togo), Denis Sassou Nguesso (Congo-Brazzaville), Yoweri Museveni (Uganda), Macky Sall (Senegal) and Adama Barrow (Gambia). The event, « an original, purely African initiative », is organized by Togo in partnership with the Brazzaville Foundation, an NGO essentially dedicated to conflict resolution and the preservation of the environment in Africa. The meeting aims to lay the foundations for a continental commitment in the fight against this scourge which kills nearly 900,000 Africans each year, including 120,000 children under the age of five, and to acquire a legal arsenal that meets the challenges .
