Rwanda : Chinese investment group inaugurates cement plant
On August 3, 2023, Rwandan President Paul Kagame inaugurated the AnJia cement plant in the Muhanga district, built by AnJia Prefabricated Construction Rwanda Company Ltd, a subsidiary of West International Holding, the African branch of West China Cement (WCC), a Chinese investment group listed on the Hong Kong stock exchange.
To date, the company has invested $50 million of the planned $100 million. It currently employs 205 people (185 Rwandans) and plans to increase this number to 250 by the end of the year.
« Today, growth prospects for the African cement industry are very promising. Rapid population growth and urbanization, particularly in Africa, are creating increased demand for housing and infrastructure. For manufacturers, this means more opportunities to invest in new markets and create jobs in our communities, » said President Kagame.
