Rama Diaw : More than a brand, a bridge between Africa and the West

Rama Diaw is an inspired stylist. Easy when you have the beautiful island of St. Louis, historic city located in northwestern Senegal, between the Senegal River and the Atlantic Ocean. But beyond passion, and confirmed talent, Rama Diaw is seeking to dress the world in the colors of Africa!

As so often, Rama Diaw’s passion emerged in his early childhood. «When I was young, I decided to create my own clothes, I drew my models, selected my fabrics carefully and developed with a neighbor tailor unique pieces. Little dresses, mini-skirts…. and already accessories such as berets or swimsuits,» a growing passion that will become so strong that she decides to make it her job. In perfect autodidact, she will be trained in the sand of her meetings and her trips to Africa, Europe, Asia, before she set up her brand, Rama Diaw, in 2007.

Young, urban and open to the world as evidenced by her collections, she is nonetheless strongly influenced by the ancestral art of NDAR women for clothing and their constant search for the harmony of colors and materials.

Like her hometown, crossroads of cultures, Rama Diaw has attracted dynamic women of all origins and all continents. Her urban and nomad collections are the result of a mix of very different textures (the Mix and Match) that personalizes her brand. She combines stretch, jersey, lace or silk with traditional fabrics such as indigo and wax, not forgetting a wide range of accessories matching her collections, including bags, shoes, jewelry,…

« My work is a mix of African and European cultural universes. It’s a constant round trip between the two. Thanks to my creations, I manage to build a bridge, like that of my city, Saint Louis, which facilitates trade and communication between the island and the rest of the country, of the world. It’s fashion diplomacy. »

And it is with a single store, located in Saint Louis, that her brand travels the world sometimes narrow fashion but where the Rama touch has been efficient. Running her small business « in the fashion of Saint Louis », in other words quietly, but surely, participating in several shows, parades and other fashion events around the world (Ethnic Lab of Paris, Landshut Festival in Germany, Fashion-Week Vienna), she naturally became the ambassador of Saint Louis, contributing through her mark to the fame of this island steeped in history.
