Rail Infrastructure: Africa to invest $65 to $105 billion annually until 2050

According to the State of Africa’s Infrastructure 2024 report by the Africa Finance Corporation (AFC), Africa will need to invest between $65 and $105 billion per year until 2050 to modernize its rail network. While 30,200 km of new rail lines are planned under the African Union (AU)‘s Programme for Infrastructure Development in Africa (PIDA), only 4,000 km have been completed so far. To close this gap, experts recommend accelerating public-private partnerships.
