Uganda: start of presidential and legislative elections in a climate of tension
Presidential and legislative elections began on January 14 in Uganda. Eleven candidates, including incumbent President Yoweri Museveni, are vying for the highest office in what observers have described as highly contested. The electoral campaign, which began at the beginning of last November against the backdrop of the novel coronavirus pandemic, saw violence when the police and opposition supporters clashed over compliance with preventive health measures.
