Okello Robert Bob : Creating one million digital jobs for African youth by 2030
With his bold initiative, Okello Robert Bob and his organization Maarifasasa commit to transforming the future of African youth through digital innovation. Their goal: to create one million digital jobs by 2030, fostering economic inclusion and modernizing the continent.

Facing endemic youth unemployment in Africa, Okello Robert Bob launched through Maarifasasa an ambitious initiative to create one million digital jobs by 2030. Maarifasasa, a Swahili word meaning “education,” symbolizes both the tool and the method to open real opportunities for youth in digital technologies.
According to the World Bank, youth unemployment in Sub-Saharan Africa averages 14%, with peaks sometimes exceeding 30%. Yet the continent is home to the youngest population globally, rapidly embracing digital technology. This glaring gap between demographic potential and real opportunities is at the heart of Maarifasasa’s approach.
Our youth are the engine of Africa’s transformation. By giving them access to digital skills, we are not just creating jobs—we are building the continent’s future
The goal is clear: train, support, and sustainably integrate one million African youth into digital professions—web development, cybersecurity, data science, digital marketing, artificial intelligence, and more. The initiative relies on an ecosystem of local and international actors, including universities, startups, training centers, and tech companies.

Maarifasasa deploys a hybrid learning model: e-learning platforms, hands-on workshops, mentorship, and corporate internships. Special attention is given to including women and rural youth, who are often marginalized from traditional digital circuits. Strategic partnerships with tech companies ensure concrete professional opportunities.
Impact and ambitions
By 2030, Maarifasasa hopes not only to generate one million jobs but also to create a ripple effect across Africa’s economy. Digital technology is seen as a key lever for inclusive and sustainable growth. By multiplying job and entrepreneurship opportunities, the initiative aims to reduce poverty, encourage local innovation, and strengthen Africa’s role in the global economy.
