Nomination: Tiémoko Meyliet Koné new Vice President of Côte d’Ivoire

Governor of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) since 2011, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné has been appointed Vice President of Côte d’Ivoire.

« Tiémoko Meyliet Koné is a brilliant economist, an outstanding technocrat, a competent and hardworking man who has my full confidence. » It is on his words the Ivorian President Alassane Ouattara, in a speech before the Congress gathering deputies and senators and gathered in the political and administrative capital, Yamoussoukro, April 19, announced the appointment of the current governor of the Central Bank of West African States as Vice-President of Côte d’Ivoire. A position vacant since July 2020.

« This is a personality who has demonstrated his personal and professional qualities in all the high positions he has held in the public administration, the Ivorian government and outside of Côte d’Ivoire, » added the Head of State. Which has as governor of the BCEAO « has contributed to the influence of our country in Africa and the world. A function carried out « with competence, rigor and dedication ».

Born in 1949, Tiémoko Meyliet Koné is originally from Tafiré (northern Côte d’Ivoire) and is of Sénoufo ethnicity. An economist by training, he is married and has five children. He arrived at the head of the BCEAO on May 30, 2011 as acting governor before being confirmed in the post on August 17, 2014. After his higher education in economics, he completed his financial and monetary training at the BCEAO Training Center from 1973 to 1975, as well as at the International Monetary Fund Institute (IMF) in Washington in 1979.

Tiémoko Meyliet Koné was BCEAO Country Director for Côte d’Ivoire and Alternate Governor at the IMF from 1991 to 1998. In addition to his duties at BCEAO, he was Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UEMOA Pay-as-you-go pension fund (CRRAE-UEMOA) from 1996 to 2006.
Internationally, he also served as Chairman of the Conference of Governors of French-speaking Countries, the Committee of Governors of ECOWAS Central Banks and the African Mobile Financial Services Policy Initiative (AMPI).
On September 13, 2017, he was elected to the board of directors of the Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) where he represented the Sub-Saharan Africa, Middle East and South Africa regions.

Tiémoko Meyliet Koné subsequently joined the Ivorian public administration in 2007, within which he successively held the positions of Director of Cabinet of the Prime Minister with the rank of Minister from 2007 to 2010, Minister of Construction, Urban Planning and Housing in 2010, and finally, since December 2010, those of Special Advisor to the President of the Republic, in charge of Economic and Monetary Affairs.
