Nigeria : Tinubu launches GAMCO to modernize national power transmission network

Nigerian president Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the creation of the Grid Asset Management Company (GAMCO), a state-owned entity tasked with managing and upgrading electricity transmission infrastructure across the country. An 11-member committee led by Femi Gbajabiamila will assess the legal and financial framework. According to the Transmission Company of Nigeria, Nigeria has about 12,500–13,500 MW of installed capacity, but grid limitations prevent full delivery to consumers. Authorities estimate that achieving universal electricity access by 2030 will require roughly $34.5 billion in investment in the power sector.
